Mrs. Fazli Goes to Sacramento

Check out my day in Sacramento visiting the Capitol.

A Quick Look

My background

I have lived in Orange County for over 20 years. I have been married to my soul mate for 20 years, Naveed and we have 3 wonderful sons. I practiced real estate for 12 years and now I own a production company that makes video documentaries on political issues. My latest project is a documentary titled God Amongst Presidents which is a look at all 45 Presidents of the United States religion and how they navigated themselves in a nation of religious freedom.

I was born in Florida and mostly raised in Virginia by my single mother along with my younger sister. I might be an East coast woman, but I have a West coast heart. It’s here that I have decided to raise my children.

Just this past year I finished the Religious Freedom Center program at the Newseum Institute in Washington D.C. giving me the expertise in Human Rights and the First Amendment. So, you can say that for most of my life that I have been an activist, an organizer, a volunteer, a pundit, and a scholar. Missing from this list is candidate.

As the Executive Board Member of the California Democratic Party from Assembly District 55, I feel it is a perfect time to put my hat in the ring. I am not going to shut up. I am going to put up and that’s why I am running to be the next Assemblywoman from California’s Assembly District 55.

My top issues

I hope to shape legislation for health care, education, infrastructure, and dearest to my heart is housing affordability and homelessness.

The banks have destroyed millions of lives. We are still in a housing crisis. Housing prices are being manipulated again by banks giving out shady sub-prime loans. Rents are out of control causing a growing homeless population. The shelters are full and people are camped out along the river beds and if we don’t do something that population will only grow.

That’s why I believe you should send me to Sacramento so I can work on legislation to protect us from, God-forbid another huge housing crisis that will wipe us all out. I promise I will make so much noise that you will hear me all the way down here. We need more affordable housing, more consumer protection from the banks, and work on our homeless problem.

My involvement

For over the past 32 years, I have been an activist. My first petition that I circulated in 1986 was against apartheid. I canvassed for Virginia Citizen Action on environmental and health care issues. I have volunteered for many non-profits like the Red Cross and Second Harvest Food Bank. I have volunteered on many Presidential Campaigns like John Kerry where I traveled to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where I canvassed and upheld voter protection on Election Day. I also worked on both Barrack Obama’s campaigns, including running social media for North Orange County and phone banked. I was part of Hillary Clinton’s campaigns, including this past one where my son was featured in the “Trump Effect” video that she released in November days before the election.

I have covered political issues for CNN as a pundit and even won an award for Best Commentary. I have been seen on CNN, HLN, CNN International, and all of their affiliates. I also covered the DNC Convention for CNN in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2012.
